It's so hard to believe that 2016 is coming to a close! It's been a year of amazing changes for me, my family and my business. We moved into our new home in December of last year, and spent the 1st half of 2016 renovating nearly every square inch of it. We found out in late January we were expecting baby #3 (and in April that #3 would be our 3rd girl). Then we welcomed that little bundle - baby Charlotte - in mid-September, 1 full month before her duedate!
I've had the pleasure of photographing dozens of newborns, babies, toddlers and children this year, and have had so much fun designing new sets and putting together fun prop/outfit/backdrop combos. I've captured some of my favorite images to date, and have so many priceless images of my own children hanging on my walls from this past year that bring me back to the moment every time I walk past them.
Throughout this year, I've been working on the business side of my business. The artistic side is way more fun, but in order to really make the business a business, the not-so-fun stuff has to be worked on too! I took a hard look at what I wanted clients to come to me for, and to leave me with. My heart has always been in products. I know we live in a digital age, and I do want my clients to have digital copies of their artwork, but digital images aren't forever, and archival keepsakes like wall art and albums are what you'll look back on 20 years from now with your grown children - not that usb sitting in a drawer somewhere (if usbs are even readable 20 years from now!). Because of this, I will be much more product focused in 2017, see fewer clients, and spend a lot more time with those clients helping them decide how they want to have their children photographed and how they want to keep these precious memories.
It's been such a great year, filled with so many amazing memories I know I'll have for a lifetime because of the images I can look back on. I look forward to another great year, and truly can't wait to see what 2017 has in store. Happy New Year!
And of course, what's a post without some pictures!?!? Here are some of my favorite images from 2016:
